Total Training Review

Total Training: Flash Lite 2.1 Creating Mobile Applications by Dale Rankine
Review by Keith Johnson(www.KeithJohnson.net)

As many of you know there is very little out there on Flash Lite other than Adobe’s site. Friends of Ed have the only book on the topic and when I heard Total Training was going to have a DVD out I got excited and waited for the release. Unfortunately it is not that good.

Total Training website says the learning level is from Beginner to Advanced, I have been working with Flash since Flash 5 and I can tell you that it is not for the beginner and advance provide you already consider yourself a good AS 2 coder. Why? Too many pieces are missing. Just about all chapters start off good, the first topics (sub chapters) are done well and then you get towards the end they are rushed, it is almost the formula because it happens so much. This could have been a nice two disc set.

But here is the key, did I learn something? Not much. This disc is like touring a town in a fast car.

Also he jumps between projects, another frustrating learning method. I had to struggle to make it through the DVD.

You may think that maybe it is just me that had a problem with this DVD. Maybe, but I doubt it. I went through the University of Washington’s E-learning Design and Development program, I studied a year on the subject and also create e-learning for one of the biggest tech companies in Puget Sound area, and I know how to teach for the e-learning format.

This DVD sells for just under $150, sorry Total Training you make great product but I would be doing the Flash group an injustice if I said this was a buy.
